Summer Sidewalk Party

Sunday, June 23 | 3 - 5 PM | Remarks at 4 PM

FENTSTER @ Makom | 402 College Street

The Horables perform on College Street near FENTSTER, June 2021

Celebrate art, community and Pride month as FENTSTER's signature sidewalk party returns with yummy nibbles, art-making for all ages and live music from The Horables! Meet queer Jewish artist Meichen Waxer and view her new window gallery installation, I Will Relate to You, which mines her family’s experiences and archival treasures to explore the little known story of Jewish life in the far north of Ontario from the early 1900s to the postwar years.

The work was informed by accounts in the artist's late grandmother’s journals and inspired by the general goods store that her great-great-grandmother started in the north that sustained her family and the wider community. I Will Relate to You includes a capsule history exhibition on the onetime Jewish communities around Kirkland Lake accompanied by images from the Ontario Jewish Archives.

PLUS, be the first to see a vibrant new mural adjacent to FENTSTER created by artist Talie Shalmon drawing upon eclectic decorative patterns found in synagogues around the world.

Presented by FENTSTER, Makom: Creative Downtown Judaism and the Ontario Jewish Archives with support from the Kultura Collective

This event will be both outdoors and indoors in and around Makom’s storefront space. The storefront is accessible but accessible washrooms are not available on site. Kashrut observed
