Using recycled cardboard and faded memories, artist Evan Tapper recreates his grandmother's kitchen in the FENTSTER window gallery to reflect on past and present hardships of starting life anew as an immigrant.
At the exhibition opening, guest speakers will reflect on timely topics inspired by the installation:
Evan Tapper, Artist, will share his inspiration for Grine Kuzine.
Evelyn Tauben, Curator, will address how the exhibition prompts us to consider contemporary challenges related to themes raised by Tapper's work for FENTSTER.
Jodi Block from Jewish Immigrant Aid Services (JIAS) will share how as a Sponsorship Agreement Holder, JIAS is playing a central role in sponsoring over 45 Syrian refugee families and helping them settle in Canada, by partnering with over 32 constituent groups.
Carey Lucki, Vice President, Client Services for Circle of Care will address the recent rise in immigration to Toronto of elderly Holocaust survivors and how Circle of Care provides for their particular needs in the community.
PLUS, snacks and other surprises inspired by Tapper’s “Green Kitchen”!
